Well what a load of shite. After yesterdays bad run in the main where I dwindled chips away missing everything then went out to a bad move with only half my starting stack left I didnt think it was possible to run worse.

Played the $12 k/o and went out about halfway down the field, but was really looking forward to the $50 event with 7500 starting stack and over $110,000 for first prize. Missed all the early flops as usual and got my first premium hand after an hour - QQ in early position. BB called my raise and I C-bet representing the A on the flop and he called. Checked it down after that on a dodgy board and was glad I got away with only leaking a few chips as he was never folding his AQ. Next decent hand was 99 and my raise got 2 callers as did my C bet on a 864 two club board. Turn was a 2 and my next bet saw me re raised all in so I reluctantly folded as the only thing I was beating was a flush draw and his re raise smelt like a set. Low stack I then won a flip with AJ v 66 to get back in it and then made a good call with 66 which was up against a short stack's 22. 2 on the flop and I was left wondering why I never seem to run good when it matters. Shoved my last 2500 with blinds 140/280 with JJ from the SB when there had been about 3 limpers. Of course one of them had AA and I'm left feeling pretty gutted.

Still, there are plenty of big tourneys to play whenever I want to and at least I am consistently getting money in the bank with plenty of medium cashes and small victories on Ladbrokes.

So that's the end of the FTOPS and probably the end of this blog. I might start another just to keep track of results or continue this one.

Drunk for the first time in ages. Satted to the big tourney FTOPs but ran shit. Cashed in the PLO rebuy though. 212th or something. More when sober.

Just over 2 hours into the RAZZ and the blinds are getting higher and the pots a lot bigger. Make or break time and sitting on 7k from a starting stack of 4000 I just lost a very big pot that was raised and re raised before 4th. I started with A42 which turnjed into A24k3 so there was no way I was getting out of it next 2 cards came JJ and I was beaten by an average 8 high hand. That put me down to 3304 chips but as I am typing I have got back up to just under 5k with the average 5996. Not exactly comfortable but with a couple of decent hands I could be right back in it.

Came 4th in a €50 f/o on Ladbrokes from 75 runners for €356 which wasn't a bad result. Bad day in the other tournies though so not up by that much.

Time to put some footy bets on for tomorrow and hopefully find a hand in the RAZZ.

Update after 3 hours: back up to 10.3 k with the average stack at 11.6 which puts me 260/526 with 176 paid form 1526 runners. It's really a question of pot control and knowing when to get involved because the ante is 150 and the pots get big very quickly. Couple of decent hands in the next ten minutes and I will be flying. Couple of outdraws and it's beer then sleep.

Well that was a bit disappointing. Decent starting hands turning into dross equals a rapidly decreasing stack. I hit the fold button and got out of a couple of tricky situations and was down to 3.5k when I effectively committed myself pre flop with A35 - next card was a ten and I was still ahead of the opponent's K567 but the poker gods decided that is wasn't to be and I was outdrawn and finished 439th.

FTOPS not going very well really but I amm running well elsewhere so overall poker is more than paying for itself so can't really complain. Can't justify buying into tomorrow's 2 day event for $266 although I have a hefty chunk on Odds and Evens in the Ayr gold cup so if that wins I may reconsider. Doubt it though as I could do with a day playing less and I will play a couple of tourneys on Ladbrokes as well as the $10 PLO high rebuy FTOPS which might be fun. Never really played PLO but had a dabble today on Ladbrokes coming 5th in a 100 runner tournament and 13th in an 80 runner $10 rebuy which I only went out of through stupidity so maybe I stand a chance of making it through the first couple of hours.
Just played the FTOPS 6 seater $20 freezout - didn't have a bad game but finished 1970 from over 8000 with 1080 paid. Going along ok then lost a blind war against a much shorter stack when we both flopped top pair. Sat around waiting for an opportunity then lost the race that I was looking for. Can't win em all. Now looking forward to RAZZ later on which I feel I am very good at - it's certainly my best game in HORSE so barring some sick bad luck i'm confident of a good run in it.

Enjoyed the Omaha Heads up more than I thought I would, winning the first 2 games and only missing out on the money by one match. 3rd guy I played hit everything and got a huge lead, although if he hadn't hit the river to knock me out I would have been back even in chips. Not too bothered as I had another good day on Ladbrokes coming 6th in the hilo rebuy and winning a small tourney, the €5 hilo with 32 runners. Small profit on the horses too so a winning day overall. Ladbrokes and Full Tilt bankrolls looking healthy and I bought into the remaining FTOPS events as well as cashing out.

Wide awake and slightly bored so I think I will play the FL FTOPS. I'm not usually a masochist but as I will be awake watching some comedy or other anyway I may as well have some cards in front of me too.

Update: 4 hours into the fixedlimit holdem and I am sitting on 85000 chips from a starting stack of 5000. This puts me 11/513 with 390 paid from 3562 starters. It's been a bit more fun than I had thought, especially once the blinds got reasonably high. Playing 6 handed helps too as it's pretty easy to keep tracks of who is doing what. Once I had a few chips it's been all about position and aggression and the odd lucky flop. FL is a horrible game sometimes so not counting any chickens but with a bit of luck I could go quite deep.

Came 2nd in a Ladbrokes €10 turbo for €81 and also won £40 betting on Argentinian football so staying awake has proved profitable even if the FTOPS goes wahoonie shaped.

Crashed and burned in the end - got down to the bubble quite quickly and after that it went crazy. 6 handed and with the average stack around 15 BB's everyone had a pretty wide range for raising and re raising. First bit of damage was done whenn AQ lost on a Q high flop to J8 and after that I just couldn't hit a thing. No regrets as there wasn't much I could do about it. Ended up 212th to just about double my money.

Wednesday, September 16, 2009

Had a good run in the hilo but finished just out of the money. Up and down throughout but didn't get many opportunities to accumulate chips. Looking back I could possibly have been a bit more aggressive but then again that probably would have meangt getting them in bad and trusting to luck.

Wasn't intending to play the 6 seater $30 rebuy but I had just reached the final table of a 206 runner no limit hi lo tourney, also on full tilt, so decided to give it a go, try and double at the first opportunity or crash out without rebuying. My all in pre flop with AK ran into K5 off suit and when he hit his 5 I decided to cut my losses rather than end up spending cash on rebuys and add ons. Won the hi lo for $535 so a good evening nonetheless.

Running out of cash on Ladbrokes so might have to deposit there tomorrow as the FTOPS schedule isn't up to much - PL Omaha HU or FL holdem. Might have a go at the Omaha for a laugh though.
WEll after crashing out of the HORSE I had a few beers and decided to tilt off a bit of cash by entering a $1.25+ 0:25 turbo rebuy satellite to the FTOPS main event. Quadrupled up first hand with KK and after taking the add on was 3rd from 40 odd runners with 3 entries to be won. Cruised to the FT but then got a bit tooo aggressive and was 4/6. Couple of others went out and there were 4 left - 2 bit stacks and me and another guy on 30k with blinds 1500/3000. When the other shorty limped onto my BB I shoved all in - if he folds I am now at a distinct advantage. HE insta called with AQ - he had trapped me perfectly and the flop of AJ7 was no good for my 34 off. Turn 5 and river 4 gave me a straight and it's lucky there is no chat on satellite FT's as I think I may have been in for some abuse.

Either way the evening wasn't entirely wasted as I won a $50 seat for only $3 and I am now looking forward to the hi lo where 5 of us have formed a small syndicate so if I go out early at least I have 3 per cent of 4 of the other runners.

Going ok at the end of the first hour with not much to report. Got just under the 4k starting stack which is only slightly under average. Had some lovely Omaha hilo starting cards but missed the flop each time. Won a nice pot in sutd with AA7X7 which held up but not a lot else. Haven't given any chips away really so happy with it so far and waiting for some nice hands in the 2nd hour. 1733 runners with 200 paid so still a long way to go.

Also still in the 6 seater turbo which had 7634 runners and at the break we are down to 1855 with 900 paid. I'm sitting 2/3 of the way down the filed with 10 BB's so need to pick a spot to muff in soon then I should have a chance of getting to the money. Total muff fest as expected and I'm keep alive mainly by re raising with air which seems to be working so far.

I fucking hate limit hold em. KK loses to J9 then top pair not good enough against a guy calling with a flush draw to hit runner runner trips. Total bollocks and i need to get some chips soon or this will be a disaster.

256/900 and in the money in the turbo but that's not the main event of this evening so not overly excited.

Total disaster I am afraid. After those 2 beats in holdem I went through ten minutes of Omaha hilo without a playable hand. The one flop I did see with A2xx was high and I had to get out. Not too impressed with the structure on FT - I have been in bad shape early in the 2nd hour on stars before and seemed to have a lot more time before getting that low. Was just below average stack until then so my demise in this tourney is really down to those 2 hold em hands.

After that I had to find a RAZZ hand. 657 looked promising until the JQ followed it as did 238, also folowed by shit and obviously beaten. To top it all off I get them in with A58 against one caller - the guy who had runner runnered trips against me earlier and he turned over 229. I was large favourite with 4 cards to come and I would have still been low stacked but with a just about playable stack but of course the dealer wasn't on my side and I finished the tourney an abysmal 1575th with the only consolation being that I really can't see how else I could have played.

Came 243/7634 in the turbo and went out when my AK ran into KK and I somehow failed to muff. $24k for first but I had to settle for $73 which is something at least.

Think I might get drunk and watch White Stripes videos then wake up late and win tomorrow's hi lo.
Preparation is going well for the FTOPS HORSE which starts at 3am French time. Woke up about an hour ago at 5pm after staying up most of the night so should be fresh for when it starts.

Deposited $200 on full tilt to pay for the entries to that and the $20 turbo 6 seater which I might as well play too as it starts at the same time. Got half of my buy in sponsored too - the fact that someone has half of my action won't stop me playing my normal game but it may make me think twice before doing anything rash. It's also extra motivation as there is nothing better than rewarding peoples' faith in your game.

Played about 7 MTT yesterday with 3 cashes - came 6/280 in a Ladbrokes €20 f/out for €230 and 3/70 in my favourite tournament - the €10 hi lo rebuy also on Ladbrokes for around €200 which means I don't have to worry about grinding on full tilt as those cashes can pay for the FTOPS entries. No complaints about the way I went out of either - got them in at the right time in both and the poker gods didn't want me to go any further. Nice boost as MTT is the only form of the game where I have regularly made money and as we all know variance dictates that you can go a long time between decent results.

Also came 13/690 in a $10 MTT f/out on Full tilt which I played mainly so I would stay up till the morning. Was about 3/16 when I ran QQ into AA which just about crippled me or I would have been looking at at least $500. Main thing is I seem to be playing well so fingers crossed for tonight.

Didn't play anything on Sunday as I couldn't find anyone who wanted to swap Ladbrokes dollars for Fulltilt. Don't really want to deposit as the banks take enough in commission as it is. Wouldn't have minded playing the $30 and $24 hold em games but not running great on there so maybe it's money saved.

Looking forward to the $50 HORSE as it's a game I feel I can hold my own against anybody in. My weakest game is the limit hold em but hopefully I will have an edge in the hi lo games and also Razz. Came 2/280 odd in a HORSE tourney on stars recently so I don't see any reason not to go deep. Planning to sleep most of tomorrow to be ready for the 3am start.

Been playing MTT on ladbrokes and lost a bit yesterday but got the money in good nearly every time so I am happy with how I am playing and just need the cards to hold up and I am sure I will get another big cash soon.

Didn't play the omaha hi - it's the only game I can't play so the only other event today was the $10 rebuy. Not much to report - was cruising along with average stack, lost a few pots after raising and missing the flop - I also won a few pots that way, but with 20 bb's left I decided it was time to race and my AK failed to improve against QQ so I was out about 3900/10000.

Could have played it differently and got away after the flop but you need to win races to get a stack so no regrets.

Just as well I am running ok elsewhere - FT'd the Ladbrokes hi lo about 7 of the last 10 times I played it and came 3/270 in the afterbnoon €10 rebuy for €528 so I can transfer some of that to Full Tilt and pay the buy ins that way so I don't have to deposit or try and grind stt's

$24 knockout tourney tomorrow so let's hope I run a bit better than I have done so far. Ladbrokes results show that I am playing ok so hopefully I can get a run in it.

Less said about the stud hi event the better.

Except to say that QQJAQ ran into a straight and to finish me off I start of KK22 and the other cards cards went something like 8J834KK

Sick sick game sometimes. This after 3 hours btw. Out 1076 from just under 2000.

Will be playing the 10 rebuy tomorrow though. £350 win on the horses means I dont have to worry about depositing although obviously I will be trying to run up the BR a bit before that becomes necessary.

Bollocks and gn
So I'm back to square one having won the entries for 2 tourneys and failing to make an impression in either. Although I am generally nocturnal the lateness of the start times really doesn't help and hopefully today's game starting earlier will help.

Deposited another $100 - this FTOPS series could soonn be all over for me as I won't be depositing any more, what with food and drink being more important than poker, and I will have to play Event 4 as a F/out rather the taking the single rebuy and addon. Not ideal but these tourneys have a great structure so if I get through the first hour ok then anything can happen.

Will have to use the other 80 very wisely to try and build a roll for the other events. 90 player stt's aren't really the way forward so I guess I will have to try 9 seater hi lo games or something. We will see.

Out after nearly 3 hours. Had AA KK and also QQ twice with no action at all to a modest 3x BB raise. Shoved my last 6 BB's with A10 and was called by A7 who hit and that was that. Bloody annoying, I've gone deep in big mtt's plenty of times but it isn't happening at the moment.

Event 4 is going ok - didnt rebuy but added on after coming 2nd in a horse stt which paid for half the add on.

Just under average stack after the break but lost a pot after raising with nines and representing the A on the flop and folding to a raise. Plenty play left thought so lets see what happens. Back up to average after playing QQ the same way - this time the A on the flop wasn't any good to anyone.

Out 1837th from 5842. Had pocket aces and pocket kings once, queens twice, and no action at all as everyone folded to a modest 3x BB raise each time. Shoved my last 6 BB's with A10 which if course was no match for A7. Really not running well at the moment which is bloody annoying.

FTOPS event 3 FL omaha8

Well this should be fun. Enough fish in hilo pot limit let alone fixed limit where any donk played can be excused by "odds".

I often seem to clean up in HORSE tournies in the Hi-lo part so I reckon this should be worth a shot.

Not tired so fortified by a couple of bacon and egg sarnies and few beers I'm about to settle in for a long boring game of poker.

Update after nearly 4 hours. I think there must be a software fault as a lot of peoples' fold buttons dont seem to be functioning. Bored out of my mind for the first ninety minues before hitting some hands and basically just keeping my stack ticking over. Fair bit above average stack up until the 4th hour where I have just spent 40 minutes giving all my chips away.

Hands have generally been played out in the follwing manner:

Get decent hand
Raise
get 2 callers plus the blinds calling.
Miss flop and lose the hand or hit some of flop and give chips away missing the turn and river.

Highlights include losing pots with AA34 double suited to 9982 and a few others I have blocked out of my mind.
So i'm out 929th from 2887 runners and it's back to the grind tomorrow.
Well the 2nd set of sng's didnt exactly go as planned. 16 90 player tourneys and not one cash. Picked up a few bounties and a few bad beats and the BR stands at a lowly $26.

Missed out on he Event 2 shootout tourney - it was full when I went to register and although I joined the waiting list in about 135th place, I had only got up to about 40th by the time it started.

Might use the rest of my BR for the hi lo tonight - after all I am freerolling it. If I fail to cash I will just have to deposit tomorrow and try and build up some more for the other events. Just noticed it's fixed limit though. Will see how I feel later on.

Wednesday, September 9, 2009

Out 5419th from 16750. Was getting short and shoved 8 BB's from the cutoff with KJ. Was unfortunate to run into KK as I would have been happy with the blinds and antes or at least 2 live cards. Just wasn't to be tonight. At least I will get to sleep at a reasonable time then it's back to the grind tomorrow to hopefully build up the buy ins for events 2 and 3. Not too bothered about the $30 6 max 4 x shootout as it's a format I haven't played often but if the sng's run well I might give it a go. Will definitely try and play the $20 hi lo though as it's one of my better games.

Thanks for reading and gl at the tables.
Bugger. Down to 6775 after raising with AJ then betting a flush draw. Get reraised and have to lay it down. Blinds up to 200/400 in 5 minutes so will have to make a move with something soon.
Followed that with a nice double up - UTG raises and it's folded to me in the sb with KK. I flat call half hoping the short stacked BB would shove. BB folds and UTG bets out on a 3J10 flop and I call. Turn 8 and I bet out 1000 - about 1/4 of my stack - he raises me all in and I call. His AQ fails to improve on the river and I am up to 10k.
First 5 minutes after the break and I am back up to 5900 chips. A raise with Aj brought 2 callers and a scary looking J98 rainbow flop. 3 half pot sized bets later my customer folded on the river. Bit lucky as he was obviously weak - a raise would have had me folding and playing short stacked.

Couple of hands later I find QQ in the BB. One early position raiser so I flat called and took the pot on the turn after a low flop and then a J on the turn.

Back around average stack now so lets see what the next hour brings.

Wish these bloody blog posts would show in a different order though - must put people off reading.
Just finished the first hour and this has been a total waste of time so far. Only seen 3 pocket pairs, 2 of which missed and the other one I had to fold pre to a big raise.

Seen a few flops with suited connectors etc and tried a couple of raises with KJ/KQ suited etc but been so far away from hitting the flop that I wonder why I bother. Don't want to make too many moves this early on as there is no point rushing things - one decent hand and i'm up to average stack.

As it is all I have done is leak chips and from a starting stack of 5000 I have a miserable 3380 at the first break.

New dealer please or I will have to change tactics.
Bloody hell. Might pull out of this. Starts in 3 hours at stupid 'o'clock and I 've just spent 4 hours playing the Laddies hilo only to bubble. 6/49 with 5 paid and couldn't hit a flop on the FT. Luckily I had £50 on Holland to beat Scotland at even money so in profit for the day whatever.

Body clock completely fucked after 2 hours sleep from the last 32 and I can't really see how I will stay awake should I go deep in the tourney. Mind you I might enter some sort of hyper somnambultastic 4th poker dimension, kind of like a super user account but by telepathy. Or I might just be pissed, tired and end up playing like a cross between a Scandinavian freeroll specialist and Stu Ungar's autistic savant son.

Should be fun either way.
I'm entered into the FTOPS 1 event starting at 3am French time, 6 hours from now. Unfortunately I haven't slept enough so i'm hoping to catch 4 hours after the England match.

Got to sleep about 7am this morning - pretty standard for me at the moment as I get up around 2pm. Today though I was awoken by my still drunk housemate shouting about having to go to work.

Went shopping at the time I am usually dead to the world then lunchtime was taken up by poker and petanque. Not the ideal preparation for a big tourney but I will see how I feel when the time comes, I can always pull out if I am really not with it.

FTOPS

Mini FTOPS is with us again and I have decided to try and build myself a roll to play most of the events.

I deposited $104 earlier today and plan to play 16 x 90 seater $6 + 0.50 sit and goes.

Hopefully any profits from these will be used to withdraw the $104 and pay for the MTT buy ins.

Will post the results after 16 games and take it from there.

Anybody else fancy doing something similar?
